Before You Start
To add children to your account, you need:
- A Cocovox account with the Family Plan
- Your child's name and birth year
- An idea of their current learning level
Adding Your First Child
Go to Settings → Family → Add Child
Enter your child's name (first name or nickname)
Select their birth year (this determines age-appropriate features)
Choose an avatar or upload a photo
Set their learning preferences and initial reading level
Review and confirm parental controls
Click Create Profile
For Children Under 13
When adding a child under 13, you'll be asked to:
- Verify your identity as the parent/guardian
- Provide consent for data collection (COPPA requirement)
- Review privacy settings specific to children
Setting Up Login
Choose how your child will access their account:
Option 1: Parent-Assisted Login
You log in first, then switch to your child's profile. Best for young children who can't remember passwords.
Option 2: Simple PIN
Your child enters a 4-digit PIN to access their profile. The PIN is linked to your family account.
Option 3: Username and Password
For older children, create a separate username and password they can remember.
Age-Appropriate Features
Based on your child's age, features are automatically adjusted:
Ages 4-8 (Literacy Mode)
- Icon-based navigation (no reading required)
- Audio instructions for everything
- Literacy Program enabled by default
- Simplified interface
- No social features
Ages 9-12
- Full learning features
- AI Tutor with kid-friendly responses
- Optional social features (parent-controlled)
- Gamification and achievements
Ages 13+
- Full platform access
- Can have their own account (with or without family)
- Social features available
- Advanced study tools
Learning Preferences
When setting up a profile, you can customize:
- Subjects - Which subjects to focus on
- Grade Level - Content difficulty
- Learning Style - Visual, audio, reading, or mixed
- Daily Goal - How much time or XP per day
- Interests - Topics to incorporate into examples
Managing Multiple Children
The Family Plan supports up to 4 family members. To add more children:
- Go to Settings → Family
- Click "Add Another Child"
- Follow the same setup process
Each child has completely separate progress, settings, and achievements.
Editing a Child's Profile
To change settings for an existing child:
- Go to Settings → Family
- Click on the child's name
- Update any settings
- Save changes
Removing a Child
To remove a child's profile:
- Go to Settings → Family
- Click the child's name
- Scroll to "Remove Profile"
- Confirm the deletion
