Running Clinical Sessions

Conduct structured therapy sessions with AI support

What Are Clinical Sessions?

Clinical sessions in Cocovox are AI-assisted therapy sessions that combine real-time data collection with structured intervention delivery. Rather than juggling paper tally sheets and session notes, you score responses directly in Cocovox while the system tracks prompting levels, calculates accuracy percentages, and generates session documentation automatically.

Each session is linked to specific IEP goals, so every data point you collect during therapy flows directly into your client's progress tracking without any additional data entry.

Setting Up a Session

1

Select Client from Caseload

Open the Clinical section and choose a client from your caseload list. You will see their active IEP goals, recent session history, and any upcoming probe targets at a glance.

2

Choose Target Goals from IEP

Select one or more IEP goals to target during this session. Cocovox will load the relevant stimuli and scoring criteria for each goal. You can target multiple goals in a single session and the data will be attributed correctly to each one.

3

Configure Session Parameters

Set your session preferences before starting:

  • Duration - Set a session timer (15, 20, 30, or custom minutes)
  • Stimuli - Choose from built-in word lists or upload custom stimuli
  • Prompting hierarchy - Configure your prompting levels (e.g., independent, verbal cue, visual cue, model, physical assist)
  • Scoring method - Select binary (correct/incorrect) or expanded scoring (correct, approximation, incorrect)
4

Start Session with Live Data Collection

Press Start Session to begin. The session timer starts and you can immediately begin presenting stimuli and scoring responses.

During a Session

Real-Time Scoring

Score each response with a single tap or click. The three scoring options are always visible during the session:

  • Correct - Client produced the target accurately
  • Approximation - Client's response was partially correct or showed improvement
  • Incorrect - Client did not produce the target

Running accuracy percentages update in real time so you can gauge progress throughout the session.

Automatic Prompting Level Tracking

As you adjust prompting levels during the session, Cocovox records which level of support was provided for each trial. This data feeds into IEP progress tracking to show not just accuracy, but the level of independence your client is achieving.

Dialect-Aware Pronunciation Assessment

When using voice-based activities, Cocovox's pronunciation assessment accounts for dialectal variations. The system does not penalize clients for features of their home dialect, focusing assessment only on clinically targeted speech sounds.

Timer and Session Notes

The session timer is always visible, helping you stay on schedule. You can add typed notes at any point during the session. These notes are included in the auto-generated session summary and can reference specific trials or observations.

After a Session

Auto-Generated Session Summary

When you end a session, Cocovox automatically generates a clinical session summary that includes:

  • Date, duration, and goals targeted
  • Accuracy percentages per goal
  • Prompting levels used and their distribution
  • Trial-by-trial data breakdown
  • Your session notes
  • Comparison to previous session performance

Automatic IEP Goal Updates

Session data automatically feeds into your client's IEP goal tracking. You do not need to manually transfer scores or update progress charts. The IEP tracking system recalculates goal progress immediately after each session ends.

Export Session Notes

Export the session summary as a PDF or copy it to your clipboard for pasting into external documentation systems. The format is designed to meet common clinical documentation standards.

Pro tip: Use Deep Dive exercises during sessions for structured articulation practice. Exercise results are automatically scored and attributed to the relevant IEP goals through the IEP bridge.

Session Best Practices

  • Review goals before starting - Check previous session data to pick up where you left off
  • Use consistent scoring - Define your criteria for "approximation" clearly so data is reliable across sessions
  • Add notes in real time - Capture observations while they are fresh rather than reconstructing them after the session
  • Review the summary - Take 30 seconds to review the auto-generated summary before moving to your next client
